Love this. I am a full-on gaylor, albeit one who does not participate in the online fan culture - I think that Taylor is probably bi and am completely convinced by a variety of online evidence that she and Karlie dated and that she's also dated other women. One thing that's interesting to me is that there's an inherent aspect of frustration to being a gaylor - like you have to be at least a little annoyed with Taylor for refusing to come out when she absolutely could do so and still sell out a stadium in .2 seconds. We are not uncritical stans!

Right now she's in a moment of returning to her highly publicized stunt dating ways of the past, which historically she accompanies with complaining about people talking about said stunt dating, and so it makes sense to me that she's choosing this moment to refute the gaylors - I see this as her era of weirdly doubling down on heterosexuality and I personally don't like it. Maybe this is pedantic but I think it's worth noting that her statement didn't actually say that she and Karlie didn't date or that the rumors were wrong lol! Much more I could say but I'll stop there lol.

This here shows one of the main issues with the Gaylor community and why it shouldn’t be thought as of anything other than a conspiracy theory. While it might have started with looking at her lyrics through a queer lens, it is solely now about Taylor Swift herself and her personal life.

Julia is annoyed that Taylor won’t just come out, and that she is “stunt” dating and doubling down on her “fake” heterosexuality. Taylor has stated that she isn’t part of the LGBTQ community, which doesn’t matter because there is absolutely nothing she can say to convince this crowd she is not queer. For now they wait for her to come out but spend most their time angry that she won’t, angry that people think her straight relationships are real, angry that she’s “baiting” them- and in rare instances they lose their faith, start to think maybe Taylor IS straight.. and if she is they think she is boring, annoying, non intelligent, a mediocre white woman - these are all words they used to describe her when they thought she was dismissing the Gaylor belief that she is queer with the prologue.

Articles like this downplay the most extreme parasocial fandom in existence. Don’t take my word for it though. Go read posts and comments on the Gaylor Swift Reddit pages.

I personally try to engage with people's relationships to pop culture from a place of curiosity rather than judgement!

great point about the actual content of her statement! it ain't easy being a gaylor, that's for sure. (personally, I am haunted by the specter of Diana Agron.)
