WHO said WHAT?
podcasts are so dangerous
Welcome to this week’s dispatch from the lesbian internet, a mid-week news roundup from Paging Dr. Lesbian, exclusively for paid subscribers.
It continues to be a difficult summer for the bisexual PR team. This time, it’s pop singer Betty Who that’s in trouble following a recent podcast appearance. While appearing on Made It Out, Who commented on the recent controversy surrounding JoJo Siwa and Fletcher’s relationships with men, noting that she has “so much space and love for those women” and suggesting that it’s difficult to change your identity within the LGBTQ community. Who furthered her point about the fluidity of sexuality by bringing up lesbian pop star Reneé Rapp. “Reneé Rapp is like, ‘You’ll never catch me dating a man.’ It’s like, ‘Go off, queen! I love that for you. But I also hold space for her in 10 years if she goes, ‘Oops, I met the love of my life and it’s this man, I didn't mean to.’ It’s like, that’s okay!”
Unsurprisingly, folks on the internet did not react well to this, arguing that Who’s discussion of Rapp’s potential bisexuality reeks of lesbiphobia. Indeed, using Rapp as an example is particularly off-putting, as Rapp has been very open about previously calling herself bisexual before coming out as a lesbian, sharing how difficult it felt to make that change but how freeing it’s been to finally identify as a lesbian. Who’s point about the fluidity of sexuality is well-taken, but the problem with this line of thinking is that it can sometimes veer too far, leading to the assumption that lesbians are or should be open to the possibility of dating men. Who also joked that “it’s like a crime to be straight” these days, which didn’t help her cause. King Princess made a TikTok responding to the interview, questioning why on earth Who would go on a podcast and talk about how difficult it is to date a man, particularly considering the political climate.
This isn’t the first time lesbians and bisexuals in the music industry have had drama. Chronically online fans of sadgirl music may recall the time lesbian artist Snail Mail called out bisexuals for writing about women for clout, and Phoebe Bridgers responded with an image of her and Paul Mescal. Comment below if you have an idea for how we might heal this ancient beef.
I commented last week on the Instagram photo King Princess posted of her and Christine Baranski, cheekily suggesting the pair are dating, and people have taken that post and run with it. Sadly, it appears they are not an item – Baranski’s rep confirmed they are “strictly friends.” This comes several months after their feature in Interview Mag, where Baranski joked. “Let’s give them something to talk about.” But you know what couple really represents the #LoveIsLove sentiment? These two Agatha All Along fans. Two women running Agatha All Along fan accounts, one for Kathryn Hahn and one for Aubrey Plaza, met thanks to their shared love of the show and its two leads. Last month, they hinted at the fact that they were dating, and fans couldn’t believe their eyes. “What in the AO3,” one X user wrote.
It feels apt that I published my piece about the Gaylors this weekend, now that Taylor and Travis are engaged. The Gaylors are obviously having lots of big feelings about the news, and they’ve actually locked the biggest Gaylor subreddit, r/GaylorSwift. (Thanks to one of my readers for pointing this out to me.) Those familiar with the world of Gaylorism immediately wondered how the Gaylors responded to the engagement, and as most suspected, it was unhinged. I’ve collected a couple of wild posts below, but just know these aren’t even the most deranged ones I saw.
Great British Bake Off? More like Great British Gay Off! At least four out queer contestants will appear on the upcoming season of Bake Off, including a drag king. I will be tuning in extra hard. In an upcoming film, Nia DaCosta directs Tessa Thompson in a new retelling of the Ibsen play Hedda Gabler. The twist? Thompson’s love interest is a woman played by Nina Hoss, who also starred as Cate Blanchett’s love interest in TÁR. You know what else is gay? Rugby. According to Autostraddle, there are over 50 out gay players at the 2025 Rugby World Cup, some of whom are dating each other (duh). Comment below if you are gay and know anything about rugby.
Snoop Dog has decided to be homophobic even though he was literally a guest star on The L Word back in the 2000s. Boo! But don’t worry, we still have Chappell Roan. The lesbian superstar performed at the Reading Festival last week, and she sang “Subway” live for the first time (I think?) since its official release. Also, did you know there’s an LGBTQ+ Irish-language summer camp for adults? Now you do.
Finally, here is the playlist for August. I know the month is almost over, but better late than never! You can find it on Spotify and Apple Music.
That’s all for today, folks. Stay gay out there. Our Song of the Day is “Everybody Scream” by Florence + The Machine.

Yep. I’m gay and played rugby for 3 years for a city team. About 50% of the team was probably wlw +/~ m; About 10 years before (in the early 90’s) the previous women’s team had broke up because the captain/team leader didn’t like that people thought they were all lesbians (or so the lore was)
