Welcome to this week’s dispatch from the lesbian internet, a mid-week news roundup from Paging Dr. Lesbian, exclusively for paid subscribers.

Did you know that the director of Freakier Friday is a lesbian? Her name is Nisha Ganatra, and in the ‘90s, she directed a very sweet indie lesbian film called Chutney Popcorn. I haven’t seen Freakier Friday yet, but Pink Slip is definitely the gayest part of the original film, as evidenced by the fact that they are basically MUNA.

Pink Slip reunites for Freakier Friday.

I’ve never seen this show, but I know a lot of queer fans of Wednesday think the titular character (played by Jenna Ortega) is in love with her best friend, Enid (Emma Myers). Here’s what series creator Alfred Gough told Decider: “It’s a show about female friendship and people can read into it whatever they want, which is great. I mean, that’s the beauty of television, is people can take ownership, but they’re very much friends.” When asked about the possibility of romance, he responded, “It’s really a show exploring that female friendship.” It always makes me laugh when people highlight the importance of female friendship in fiction as a way to explain why certain relationships shouldn’t be gay, as if a piece of media can’t include queer women and also still be about friendship…Write more women then!
