Welcome to this week’s dispatch from the lesbian internet, a mid-week news roundup from Paging Dr. Lesbian. If you like this type of thing, subscribe. Also, I made Paging Dr. Lesbian stickers! If you want to purchase one, you can here.
In case you missed it, Instagram was down on Monday (as well as Facebook and WhatsApp, the latter of which had widespread ramifications in countries outside of the US), but not to worry, I still have content for you this week. In Austin, where I currently reside, numerous sapphics descended for the Austin City Limits festival, including Phoebe Bridgers, Doja Cat, Meghan Thee Stallion, and Miley Cyrus. Miley and Meg took the stage together. In other news, Mitski, the queen of sad girls everywhere, released a new song and video, and people are not okay. Coincidentally, Adele – the queen of fall – reactivated her socials and announced new music on the very same day.
In other seasonal news, the first lesbian Lifetime movie was announced last week, and it stars Carmilla’s Elise Bauman (sporting some truly terrible bangs). Bauman plays a “marketing whiz” and her love interest (Tattiawna Jones) is a “Christmas tree whisperer. It is an enemies-to-lovers story, if you will, with Ricki Lake also starring as “the town’s pâtissière extraordinaire.” Happiest Season, watch your back.
JoJo Siwa and her partner did the Argentine Tango to Britney Spears (who is partially free!) this week on Dancing With the Stars, and frankly, it slaps. In other news, Beatrice Luigi Gomez became the first openly queer woman to win Miss Universe Philippines. We stan!
Our newest Princess Diana, Kristen Stewart, was on the cover of Entertainment Weekly this week, and reader, the photoshoot is great. Our dykey Chanel girl has never looked so good.
Our favorite lesbian period piece series finally wrapped! Cast and crew of the BBC’s Gentleman Jack announced that they finished filming the second season of the series after a year-long shoot. (Sophie Rundle, who plays Ann Walker and continues to insist on calling Suranne Jones her wife, also birthed a whole-ass baby during this time). Sophie posted celebratory pictures on Instagram. (I also started and finished the lesbian submarine series – which is actually called Vigil and stars Suranne Jones and Rose Leslie – and it’s good!
On October 3rd it was Tessa Thompson’s birthday (which also coincides with Mean Girls day), and on October 4th it was Dakota Johnson’s. St. Vincent wished her a happy one by posting a screenshot of them in lingerie from Nowhere Inn. I also want to recommend to you this article, by Kayla Kumari Upadhyaya, which is a lesbian perspective on Iron Man. These three pieces of information are not really related to one another unless you count the fact that Iron Man is a Marvel movie and Tessa Thompson was in Thor: Ragnarok. (My mind!)
That’s all for this week, folks! Since it is officially sad girl fall, I will leave you with another Mitski meme, from mitskilled on Twitter.
