Happy December! Since it’s the holiday season, I’ve been watching a lot of Christmas movies. This week I watched Every Time a Bell Rings, which is a Hallmark Christmas movie that co-stars Bomb Girls alumn and queer actor/director Ali Liebert. Liebert plays one of my favorite lesbian characters of all time in Bomb Girls, so I was excited to finally see her play queer in something else. My verdict: it’s good! (And you can watch with a free trial of the Hallmark Channel). Obviously, it’s a lighthearted Hallmark movie so if you’re looking for realistic plot points and naturalistic dialogue look elsewhere, but I found it to be a sweet story about sisterly love and I may or may not have screamed in my living room when the lesbian kiss finally happened. Also, it’s not a coming out story! (Each sister gets one kiss total – no tongue, of course – including the one who is literally married, which I appreciated because I’m all about #equality.) As far as I can tell, this is the first Hallmark Christmas movie with a lesbian in it – there was one with a gay man last Christmas, and the channel actually featured a lesbian wedding last year as well. Liebert has also starred in a few other Hallmark movies previous to this and recently directed one of her own, so I’m interested to see what she’ll do on the channel in the future. (Also, she just made a really cute post about her gf on Instagram). Yay!
Netflix has also ventured into the gay Christmas movie sector with their new film Single All the Way, which stars Michael Urie along with Kathy Najimy and Jennifer Coolidge. It’s actually quite funny and I was once again surprised and pleased to see the central focus of the film not be about coming out. At the very least, watch for Jennifer Coolidge talking about how “the gays” have always loved her. In other news, lesbian production company Tello Films has released their third sapphic Christmas rom-com, Christmas at the Ranch, which you can rent. (Their 2019 Christmas film, Season of Love, starring sapphic favorite Jessica Clark, Dominique Provost-Chalkley, and Emily Goss, is also available to rent, and I would cautiously recommend it.
According to resident Carol stan and film critic David Ehrlich, Nightmare Alley is not exactly the Carol 2 we have been wishing for, but there’s still hope. In his words: “Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara only have one scene together (in which they barely interact), buuuut they're basically styled to look like Carol and Therese are on a date in 1941. so it's a mixed bag.” All is not lost! And they still look like this (see below).
In sports news, lesbian wives and superstars (and new moms) Ashlynn Harris and Ali Krieger have been traded from Orland Pride to Gotham FC, which is based in New Jersey. I don’t really understand how trading works so you can read about that yourself, but I’m sure Orlando fans are salty about losing their famous power couple. Also, gay basketball player Diana Taurasi has been named the Greatest Of All Time (or the GOAT) in the WNBA. I wanted to share this piece of information partly because somehow I found it through an Instagram account “Plant Based News,” which was congratulating Taurasi for accomplishing this feat as a famous vegan. You go!
A hilarious and unexpected quote recently came across my desk (my kitchen table) that I wanted to share. I have no idea what the context for this quote is but I felt I had to preserve it here.

Meme creator Princess Dyke’s account has been disabled. This is especially concerning considering how words like “dyke” keep being censored and lesbian and queer creators are having their posts deleted all over the place. I’ve been informed that going settings>help>report a problem and asking them to reinstate @princessdyke could be helpful, but I’m not sure. It’s worth a try!
