An update from Dr. Lesbian
I'm still here!
This is the Sunday Edition of Paging Dr. Lesbian. If you like it, subscribe, and share it with your friends. Upgrade your subscription for more, including weekly dispatches from the lesbian internet, monthly playlists, and a free sticker. I’m a full-time freelance journalist – your support goes a long way!
Hello to all. I’m here to give you an update on the cadence of this newsletter. Due to forces beyond my control (the terrible job market, inflation), I will now be writing the Sunday Edition every other week instead of every week. Paid subscribers will still get the dispatch from the lesbian internet every Wednesday, and a playlist every month – none of that will change. I’m currently freelancing full-time while looking for more permanent work in journalism, so I don’t have the time (or rather, I shouldn’t make the time) to write every week for free.
I may deliver Sunday Editions two weeks in a row on occasion, if I have something timely, like a review of a book or a film, to publish. (I’ve been sent some cool queer books recently that I’m excited to share with you.) I hope to keep delivering to you high-quality work that lives up to this very esteemed newsletter’s name.
As always, feel free to reach out to me in the comments, in the Substack chat, or through email (kira.deshler@gmail.com) if you have anything you’d like to share. I’m always open to suggestions for topics to write about, and I love hearing about what interests you. As a reminder, I do accept submissions, though I can’t pay much, as you may have guessed from the above announcement.
Happy reading/watching/listening,
–Kira/Dr. Lesbian

Kira Deshler: Markets go up and down, but you are doing very important work in times of hatred and divisive rhetoric from the Government.
The Government, the Executive have the duty to represent all of us and to strive for reconciliation.
Today, the Government baits gays, lesbians, transgender and other gender groups.
This baiting subjects gender groups to bigotry and violence.
Your voice is a light, a candle, a beacon of light to ensure brotherhood and sisterhood.
Each person has immeasurable inner worth and deserves love, shelter, nourishment, healthcare, a livable retirement.
Keep your voice as Dr. Lesbian strong and shine the light of truth on behalf of the beautiful rainbow.
I am a man married 52 years, but I see so many traditional marriages broken up that I am very sympathetic to the idea that two wives understand each other and communicate empathically. In this marriage, I love my wife with every fiber in my soul, but she tells me I do not listen to her and am clueless.
What helps, though, is my beautiful wife gathers with her girlfriends, and the link among girlfriends lifts her soul and gives her strength.
There are good men, but so many awful men and women are often caught unawares. I think sapphic, lesbian relations are probably safe and characterized by mutual understanding. Even more natural than traditional marriage.
And what roils me is the rightwing targeting of gays, lesbians and transgender, subjecting vulnerable persons to violence.
Maybe without the rightwing rhetoric, I would not be as aware of the LGBTQ+ communities.
But now, I am alert and have an unshakable conviction that each person must be protected, afforded her dignity, accorded due process of law, and enabled to live her life in freedom and develop her inner self free of harassment.
This conviction is so basic, so commonsense, it beggars belief one has to state the conviction explicitly.
But we are living in an administration that targets populations.
And I will join any who stand up for the love and dignity of each.
Your column is high among these, and your work is very important, even critical in times of targeting and persecution.
What you publish is very important, and I love your writings.
You are the best. Believe in yourself! I certainly believe in you and grow in your thoughts.
